In 1921, Duncan Phillips and his mother opened the Phillips Memorial Gallery to the public in a specially designed sky-lit gallery on the second floor of the house (called the Main Gallery) that was added in 1920. In 1923, an entire fourth floor was added above the bedrooms to provide space for a small library, a nursery, and a large sky-lit painting studio for Marjorie, Duncan’s wife. In 1924 an imposing new entrance was built to allow the public access to the gallery separate from the residence.

The Phillips Mansion is a Second Empire style historic house in Pomona, Los Angeles County, California. It was built in 1875 by Louis Phillips, who by the 1890s had become the wealthiest man in Los Angeles County. Situated along the Butterfield Stage route, the Phillips Mansion became a center of community activity in the Pomona and Spadra area. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, making it among the first 25 sites in Los Angeles County to be so designated (there are now more than 450). Phillips House offers patients of all ages outstanding medical care and first-class amenities in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Phillips House features large, private rooms located on the top three floors of the Ellison Building.

The vendor has been attracting newbies and old pros alike with a verdant display that’s not to be missed. Invisible Collection, the leading online design gallery, is pleased to announce their Los Angeles residency at Phillips. The house’s first owner was Aaron Phillips, an Iowa hardware merchant who came to Los Angeles in 1887. His wife, Maria, and daughter, Grace, had traveled to Los Angeles a year earlier to scout the area. With Aaron’s concurrence, arrangements were then made for site purchase and home construction in Angelino Heights. Grace lived in the house until 1942, when her heirs sold the property to the current owner’s family.

In the early 2000s, the Goh Annex underwent further renovation and expansion to add vital visitor spaces, such as the shop and cafĂ©, and to merge with the new adjacent Sant Building. Today, visitors are welcomed through the main entrance of the Goh Annex, which houses the admissions lobby and numerous galleries. The Phillips Collection gratefully acknowledges all donors to each phase of the Goh Annex construction projects for their generosity and support. In the late 1980s, the Annex was renovated and expanded under the direction of then director Laughlin Phillips, the son of Duncan and Marjorie Phillips. A fourth floor was added that included a conservation studio and space for art storage. The exterior was altered to visually reflect the original Phillips House.

In 1907, the Phillipses added a new wing on the north side of the house (now the Music Room). Built in 1899 for the artist and socialite Sarah Posey, this fantastical home was bought only a year after Posey settled in by the legendary oil magnate EL Doheny and his wife Estelle. “The premise of the documentary is that he pledged fraternities at colleges,” John Sloss, producer, founder and CEO of Cinetic Media, told an audience at the Sands Film Festival in St. Andrews, Scotland. He was discussing the pic as part of an onstage Q&A about the current state of documentary filmmaking alongside Molly Thompson, Head of Documentaries and Non-Fiction at Apple TV+, and Oscar-winning producer Melanie Miller (Navalny, Maestra). Phillip’s chiffon dress featured a floor-sweeping hem and a pleated maxi skirt with a metallic pattern. The dress was from Hudson’s ready-to-wear fall 2023 collection, which was inspired by style setters of the 1970s.

The original Rothko Room was relocated to the second floor of the new building. The two floors below ground, excavated for this expansion, contain the library and archives as well as an auditorium and spaces for education programs and community exhibitions. This multicolored, turreted, upper middle class house was originally built in 1887 at the base of Mount Washington by real estate developer George Morgan. It has been called "picturesque eclectic," and is a mixture of the Queen Anne and Eastlake styles of architecture. Pasadena Ave. (now Figueroa Street) early in its existence, and bought by motorman James Hale and his new bride Bessie.

Efforts to repair or replace the machines have been plagued by delays that have frustrated regulators and patients in the U.S. and other countries. Although, like most people, he first started growing orchids in pots, it wasn’t until a trip to see family in Mexico in 1977 that he saw orchids growing naturally on trees and rocks, at every layer of a forest canopy. From 1960 to 1987, the Phillips had a sculpture courtyard adjacent to the original Annex intended for loan exhibitions; that space was absorbed into the building’s expansion and reopened in 1989 as the Goh Annex. In 2006, a new courtyard was opened and named the Hunter Courtyard after former Trustee Margaret Stuart Hunter, who commissioned a major sculpture by Ellsworth Kelly for the west wall. A sculpture of a stylized bird, based on a design by Georges Braque, was installed over the entrance of the new building.

Major funding for the renovation was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Yasuhiro Goh, for whom the Annex was named. Additional support was provided by The Kresge Foundation and more than 180 individuals, foundations, and corporations, with former Phillips Trustee Richard D. Simmons chairing the fundraising campaign. A three-story Georgian Revival town home of red brick with sandstone trim and a flat roof was constructed in 1897 for the family of Major Duncan Clinch Phillips and his wife, Eliza Laughlin Phillips, and their two young sons, James and Duncan.

Located in the South Bonnie Brae Historic district, this multicolored wonder is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Built in 1894, it perfectly exemplifies the Victorian dictum of “more is more,” and is a combination of Richardson Romanesque, Queen Anne, and Moorish Revival styles. For the new money of boomtown Los Angeles, this exuberant combination of styles helped signal to neighbors that the owner had really arrived. One of the most ornate homes in Angelino Heights, the Phillips House blends two Victorian styles. The sharp angles, in both the shape of the house and its geometric decoration, typify the Eastlake style, while the overall decorative exuberance reflects the Queen Anne style.

Carroll Avenue is a street in Angelino Heights, one of the older neighborhoods of Los Angeles. It consists of Victorian-era houses within a picturesque neighborhood and has served as the backdrop for countless motion pictures. Continuing our global expansion and ongoing commitment to the region, Phillips’ West Coast headquarters is situated in the heart of the arts and culture district of Los Angeles at 9041 Nemo Street in West Hollywood. The space showcases a robust program of exhibitions devoted to traveling highlights from auctions in New York, London, Hong Kong and Geneva, as well as private selling exhibitions specifically curated for the space, panel discussions, and events.

The wraparound porch affords splendid views of what was once Lucky’s beloved Santa Anita Ranch. It was the center of many parties and romantic rendezvous during its prime, and is now open to the public through guided tours. The two-story Annex built in 1960 was The Phillips Collection’s first major building project since 1923 (the addition of the fourth floor of the House). The new addition, in a contemporary international style, provided much needed gallery space and a new main entrance. This American Foursquare house (with Richardson Romanesque influences) was designed by famed architect Frederick L. Roehrig in 1895.

Journalists, politicians, government officials and celebrities, including President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden, were invited to the event. Abby Phillip brightened the White House Correspondents’ Dinner 2024 red carpet on Saturday. The CNN anchor wore a gold dress from Sergio Hudson at the event, which was held at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Most of the devices recalled are continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, machines. They force air through a mask to keep mouth and nasal passageways open during sleep. Monday's announcement is another step toward resolving one of the biggest medical device recalls in the industry's history, which has dragged on for nearly three years.

One of the oldest surviving Roehrig houses, it was situated on the ultra-fashionable “Millionaire's Row” in Pasadena. A reaction to fussy Victorian styles, American Foursquare emphasized boxy lines, “honest” carpentry and plain facades. It is considered a cousin to both the Prairie and Craftsman styles of architecture. Another Frederick Roehrig design, this Queen Anne-style mansion was built by Andrew McNally, founder of the Rand-McNally Publishing Company. The estate featured beautiful gardens, an aviary, and a private railway spur.

The Historical Society of Pomona Valley purchased the Phillips Mansion in 1966 for $45,000 to prevent it from being torn down completely, and in 1974 the Phillips Mansion was added to the National Registry of Historical places. Today, the Mansion is being restored to its 19th century design, and the exterior is now much as it was when Louis and Esther Phillips lived there. Central air conditioning, fire stairs, elevators, and other essentials for a modern facility were integrated into the 19th-century house. Built in 1841 as a simple three-room adobe, this home base of the pioneering Workman family was updated during the 1870s. According to historians, the renovated house is “believed to have been designed by early Los Angeles architect Ezra Kysor... One of the first houses on the famed Carroll Avenue in Angelino Heights, this two-story house was built in the late 1880s.
